P.R.I.C.E

Community Engagement

The Kentwood Police Department introduced an integral safety initiative in 2014 aimed at Preventing Retail Theft through Initiative Collaboration and Enforcement known as P.R.I.C.E. This initiative was developed as a collaborative approach towards building relationships within our business districts, and responding to crime patterns more effectively. In initiating this program, the overall goal is to reduce crime, increase traffic safety, and increase service to our community.

It is our intent to help create a positive and safe shopping experience for those who live in and visit our City during the holiday season.  During P.R.I.C.E. detail, officers collaborate with retailers throughout 28th and 29th street to pro-actively deter criminal activity. Activities include distributing a P.R.I.C.E. poster to businesses declaring the partnership between the retailer and the Kentwood Police Department, assigning plain-clothed officers to businesses targeted for organized retail crime, making contact with over 60 businesses and citizens, and being highly visible to potential offenders. P.R.I.C.E. has surpassed the intended goal, demonstrating to be a highly successful initiative not only for our department, but for the community as a whole. The decline in retail theft during the holiday season is the result of pro-active policing activities from the P.R.I.C.E. task force.
