The City of Kentwood is located in the southwest corner of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Kentwood is a growing, diverse City best known for its cultural amenities, business and industry sectors, in-demand real estate market, and highly-ranked schools. The population of Kentwood has continued to grow over the past decade. The current estimated population is calculated at roughly 54,300. Geographically, the City of Kentwood stretches just over 20 square miles. Within the City, there are 15 parks, various trail systems and 22 schools.  

The Kentwood Police Department is comprised of approximately 70 sworn officers. The Patrol Division operates with approximately 35 officers. These officers are responsible for the initial response to routine and emergency calls that occur in the City of Kentwood 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, there are six sergeants who provide leadership, supervision and training for all sworn officers.

As a Department, we work every day to accomplish our mission by engaging with local community groups, schools, churches, and business leaders to make Kentwood a great place to live, visit and work. Events, such as National Night Out, Touch-a-Truck, and Trunk-or-Treat, are just a few of the activities that the Kentwood Police Department engages in to stay connected in our community. In addition, we continually strive to represent the community in which we serve. Programs such as the Kentwood Police Department Youth Academy, Toys for Tots, and ARCH allow our officers to connect with our youth and invest in the future. Continually, the Kentwood Police Department strives to deliver professional police services and address community concerns as they develop.

hours of operation
The Kentwood Police Department's front desk business hours are weekdays from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. The Justice Center's entrance is locked between 5 PM and 8 AM on weekdays and weekends. If you require police service during those times, please use the pay phone at the main entrance to call the dispatch office. A toll-free 800 number is posted above the phone for use in non-emergency situations. An officer will be dispatched to the office to assist you.  For emergency assistance, you may dial 9-1-1 from any pay phone without cost.

Text Message Surveys
The Kentwood Police Department has launched a new public feedback opportunity to enhance its customer service and community engagement. Beginning Sept. 20, community members who interact with the police department will receive a customer service survey via text message between 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. 24 hours following a call for service for a non-life-threatening incident. 
The survey will include three questions asking for a rating between 1-5 and a fourth question inviting a typed comment. There will also be a link at the end to send an email about your experience with department personnel.
