Division United Project Partners to Host Virtual Town Halls April 22
Online sessions will highlight plans for transportation and development improvements on Division Avenue
The Rapid, in partnership with the cities of Grand Rapids, Kentwood and Wyoming will host two Virtual Town Hall Meetings on Thursday, April 22, to provide an update on the final phase of the Division United project.
Division United is a project to identify transportation and development improvements to benefit the people of South Division Avenue. The Rapid and the partner cities have been working together for over a year to gather feedback and ideas from residents, businesses, community leaders and other stakeholders to improve the quality of life and economic vitality of the corridor around the Silver Line bus rapid transit service.
The project partners are inviting community members to tune in and learn about the recommended plan to enhance South Division from Wealthy Street to 60th Street. Each session will be live translated into Spanish and Vietnamese to meet the needs of the corridor.
The final Division United plan will provide a blueprint for The Rapid, Grand Rapids, Kentwood and Wyoming to work collaboratively to enhance services and amenities throughout the corridor. In addition to these town hall meetings, draft plans, how to videos and a comment form are available on the project website: DivisionUnited.org.
“This has been a very unique project and an incredible example of the great work our communities can do together with the right partnerships and approach,” said Nick Monoyios, planning manager at The Rapid. “These virtual town hall meetings will provide an informative summary of plans for Division Avenue and will give anyone interested a chance to ask questions and provide feedback.”

Division United is funded through a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant and supported by state and local match funding from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), Grand Rapids, Kentwood and Wyoming. The goal is to encourage equitable and sustainable development along South Division supported directly by the Silver Line, The Rapid’s express Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line that connects the three partner cities.
