City Seeks Applications for Vacant City Commission Seat

We’re seeking applications from eligible residents for a vacant City Commission seat following the resignation of Commissioner Maurice Groce.

Qualified applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Kentwood resident for at least one year and a registered voter.
  • Must be in good financial standing with the City of Kentwood.
  • Must not have a felony conviction.

The appointed city commissioner will serve through the end of Groce’s term, which ends in November 2027. This is an at-large seat, so applicants can live anywhere in Kentwood.

The City will accept applications until noon on Monday, July 22. Apply by completing an online application and emailing it to Deputy City Administrator Shay P. Gallagher at Gallaghers@kentwood.us or faxing it to 616.554.0818, or in person at Kentwood City Hall, 4900 Breton Ave. SE.

The City Commission will review applications, interview candidates and appointment someone to fill the seat by Tuesday, Aug. 30.

The City Commission meets twice a month – on the first and third Tuesday. Meetings typically begin at 5:30 p.m. and sometimes end after 9 p.m. Each city commissioner is paid $11, 220 per year.

Questions about this City Commission may be directed to Deputy City Administrator Shay P. Gallagher at Gallaghers@kentwood.us or 616.554.0770.
