Community Invited to share feedback for metropolitan transportation plan

The Grand Valley Metropolitan Council is beginning the development of the next Metropolitan Transportation Plan for the Grand Rapids region, which will define funding and priorities for all modes of transportation through the year 2050. As part of the plan development process, road conditions, congestion, safety, freight movement, passenger rail, air travel, nonmotorized, transit and other modes of transportation will be evaluated.

Your input is an important part of this process, and public comment is open until Monday, April 22. Two open houses will be hosted on Wednesday, April 10: 2-3:30 p.m. and 5-6:30 p.m. at Rapid Central Station, 250 Cesar E Chavez Ave. SW. There will also be a virtual option on Thursday, April 11 at 10:30 a.m.-noon for those who can’t attend in person. Find all the event details at gvmc.org/mtp.

More Information About the Plan

The purpose of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan is to ensure transportation investments in our area enhance the movement of people and freight efficiently, effectively and safely over the next 20+ years. Without such a plan, federal transportation funding could not be allocated in the region.

GVMC staff will also participate in local events to allow the opportunity for in-person feedback. The development of the plan is expected to take place through early May of 2024.
